These shrimp usually live in symbiosis with yellow prawn-goby. They make their burrows under the sand, but their poor eyesight means they often do not notice approaching predators. To make up for this, they allow yellow prawn-goby to live in their burrows and act as guards. By doing so they can spot threats approaching by the movements of the goby, allowing them to defend themselves.
