The coloration of young and adult fish of this species differ greatly. Juvenile African coris have a red hue to their bodies, but once they grow older they turn a dark blue, with beautiful blue speckles. They feed primarily on benthic organisms and small fish, and when night comes they hide themselves away beneath the sand to rest.
