This species of stingray is found throughout Japan. Their tails are long and flexible and have a poisonous spine. The poison in these spines is extremely potent, and once they pierce something they are very difficult to remove. This species has been known to lurk under the sand in shallow coastal waters in spots where swimmers and shell collectors visit.
