The gill slits of the giant guitarfish open up from their underbellies, making them a species of ray. They have shaped heads that are elongated at the front. Sizes differ between males and females, with females being the larger of the two at over 2 m in length. They prey on crustaceans, fish, and molluscs such as octopuses.
