The organs of these fish contain a powerful tetrodotoxin known as palytoxin. This poison is related to the marine toxins found in animals like palythoa, a species that is often consumed by this fish. They do not usually form schools, instead living solitary lives in shallow coastal rock reefs and coral reefs.
