Their name comes from the resemblance of their pointed tails to swords. They reside in paddy fields, streams and other such wet areas, and the mucous secreted from their bodies contains a powerful poison. Their black backs and orange bellies serve to warn potential predators. They feed on things like insects and earthworms.
