These fish get their name from their boxlike appearance. Juveniles of this species have vivid yellow color with many black spots. Adults have yellowish-brown color and covered in black spots that in turn contain smaller white spots. When disturbed or stressed, they secrete a poisonous mucous from their skin in order to protect themselves from predators.
