These pelicans live in flocks around wetlands and marshes, and the skin on their large bills can stretch to form a pouch. They scoop up fish and water in their pouches, then spit out the water through the gap between their upper and lower bills, leaving just the fish for them to eat. They can reach sizes of 1.5 m, or almost 3 m with wings spread. They possess large webbed feet, which allow them to swim in the water.
