Barred mudskippers live on the mud flats of estuaries and in mangroves. They can breathe both via gills and via their skin and can often be found living on land. Their entire bodies are covered in a viscous liquid to prevent them from drying out. They use their pectoral fins to move about on land but sometimes jump using their tail fins when surprised.
