Humboldt penguin

These penguins are found around the Humboldt Current in western South America. They feed on fish such as sardines that inhabit the same area of the ocean, as well as on crustaceans and molluscs. They make nests in grottos or in tunnels dug in sand where they breed and raise their young. During molting season, which occurs once per year, they avoid entering the water and instead spend their time on dry land.
